Prüm Abbey

Prüm Abbey, a monastery in Rhineland-Palatinate, was founded in the 8th century, hosting figures such as Emperor Lothair I.
History+
The founding of Prüm Abbey took place in 721 by Bertrada the Elder. In 752, it was re-established with Benedictine monks by Pippin the Younger and his wife Bertrada the Younger, becoming a dynastic monastery of the Carolingians. The abbey was also known for its monastic school, where sons of the nobility were educated. In 855, Emperor Lothair I entered the monastery here and found his final resting place in the collegiate church. After Norman raids in the 9th century, which led to destruction, the abbey was elevated to a principality in 1222. In 1576, it was incorporated into the Electorate of Trier against its will. The monastery church was rebuilt in 1721, and the abbey buildings in 1748.
