History+

The Abbey of Sablonceaux was founded in 1136 by William X, Duke of Aquitaine. In the 12th and 13th centuries, the monastery experienced a period of prosperity, favored by donations from the English royal house of Anjou-Plantagenet and local families. Its proximity to a Camino de Santiago also contributed to its wealth.
