St. Erentraud Abbey

The monastery of St. Erentraud was founded in 1924 as part of the Beuron Congregation. The first Benedictine nuns came from the monasteries of St. Hemma in Gurk and St. Gabriel in Bertholdstein. It was named after Saint Erentraud, the first abbess of the Nonnberg Abbey in Salzburg. The abbey church, a Baroque-style building, was constructed in 1923/24 by Adolf J. Lorenz. Two years after its founding, in 1926, the monastery was elevated to an abbey. During the Nazi era, from 1940 to 1945, the nuns were expelled. A special feature of the abbey is a Baroque nativity scene with figures dating back to the 17th century, which is displayed annually during the Christmas season.
