The Burgmannenhaus in Horstmar+
History and Architecture+
The Burgmannenhaus was built in 1531 and rebuilt in 1544.
It is a two-story stone building with a stepped gable, typical for the Münsterland region. The building served as the residence for the Burgmannen (castle knights) who were vassals of the Bishop of Münster and responsible for the defense of Horstmar Castle.
Restoration and Current Use+
In the 1980s, the Burgmannenhaus underwent extensive restoration. Today, it houses the local history museum of Horstmar, showcasing the history of the town and its castle.
