Sandmühle Manor

The first written mention of the Sandmühle dates to 1448, when the ownership rights of Knight Hermann von Winkelhausen were confirmed by his sovereign. It is believed that these rights already belonged to his ancestors. In 1551, Hermann von Winkelhausen transferred the mill to his nephew Johann. Later, in 1884, Prince Alfred von Hatzfeld-Wildenburg acquired the estate, which at that time comprised over 15 hectares of land. After a period of ownership by the Lambertusstift Düsseldorf, the Sandmühle passed to Count von Spee in 1927, who sold it to the city of Duisburg in 1955. Archaeological findings indicate a medieval predecessor building from the 12th to 13th centuries. The current mill building was constructed in several phases, with the core built around 1687.
