Ahrburg Castle
The Ahrburg is a former moated castle on the eastern edge of Golzheim, municipality of Merzenich in the district of Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia.
The first known owners were members of the Luschane family. An Arnold Luschane von Golzheim was documented in 1413. At that time, the Ahrburg was called Luschenicher Hof after its owner. In 1571, the property fell to the brothers Alexander, Bertram, and Otto von Ahr. The family originated from Antweiler (Mechernich). Since 1581, the Luschenicher Hof has been called Ahrburg.
In the middle of the 18th century, the mayor of Golzheim, von Herweg, was the owner of the property. In 1748, he had the manor house, a two-story transverse rectangular building with a mansard roof, which is still preserved today, constructed. Afterwards, the von Kempis family became the owners.
Today, the Ahrburg is managed by the Stollenwerk family (Stollenwerk (canned goods)).
