Alexander Castle

The origins of Alexanderschloss are presumed to be in the late 15th century, when Bischofsheim was expanded to include the Hinterstadt. At that time, it was situated near the central town gate. The first documented mention occurred in 1545, when Johann von Helmstatt and his father-in-law Philipp von Helmstatt acquired the castle from Alexander II von Helmstatt. The latter gave the castle its current name. After Philipp's death, the property passed to Christoph von Helmstatt. At that time, the two-winged building also included farm buildings such as a cattle yard, barns, and stables. Renovations were carried out during the second half of the 16th century, the traces of which are still visible on doors and window frames today.
