Old Chapel Cossebaude

The Old Chapel was likely built in the 13th century and was originally part of a manor in Cossebaude, first mentioned in 1263. In 1441, the chapel was consecrated to Saint Dorothea and was subordinate to the Meissen Cathedral Chapter. In 1492, the Meissen Cathedral Provost Johannes von Konigspergh dissolved the manor and declared the community of Cossebaude an independent parish. The chapel also served as the residence for a priest responsible for collecting ecclesiastical taxes related to viticulture. After the Reformation, the Old Chapel was converted into a Protestant church in 1578 and subsequently became a filial church of the church in Briesnitz.
