Old Residence Passau

The Old Residence is located in the old town of Passau opposite the cathedral. The current building stock essentially dates from the 15th to 17th centuries; the oldest preserved part is a Romanesque door frame from 1180. The prince-bishops are first mentioned in documents as owners of the episcopal palace in 1188. The extensions in the second half of the 16th century were carried out by Leonard Uttner and Christoforo Canevale.

Along Zengergasse stretches the Zengerhof, which today houses the District Court. In the halls of the upper floor are stucco ceilings by the Carlone school from 1685 and by Giovanni Battista d'Allio from 1720.

To the east lies the court chapel, secularized in 1803, with a portal by Balthasar Vecchio from 1693. The chapel room now serves as a meeting room for the District Court. On the second floor are five representative rooms from the 18th century, as well as the Upper Court Chapel, the Indian Trellis Room, and the Audience Hall.

The building is connected to the New Residence via the so-called Saalbau.
