The Old Denstedt Castle, a historic castle complex, rises on a flat mountain spur west of the village of Denstedt, part of the municipality of Kromsdorf. It is picturesquely situated in the Weimarer Land in Thuringia and is a testament to past times, its striking keep visible from afar.

The origins of the complex date back a long way, with the first documented mention of the village of Denstedt dating to 874. A knightly family named after Denstedt appeared around 1206 and is presumed to be the likely builder of the original manor. In the early 16th century, specifically around 1530, Dietrich Gans had the castle built in its current form, incorporating a late medieval keep. After a period of debt and decay, particularly during the Thirty Years' War, Johannes Lyncker von Lützenwick acquired the estate in 1689.
