History+

The origins of the Old Castle date back to the 13th century, when it was owned by the Lords of Lachsenburg. After the extinction of this lineage in the 14th century, ownership passed to the Habsburgs. Under Albrecht III, the original hunting lodge was expanded. Following a period of decay, a renovation and Baroque transformation was undertaken by Lodovico Burnacini under Leopold I. Although the castle was again damaged during the Second Turkish Siege, reconstruction and an additional story were completed as early as 1693. In the 18th century, the moats were filled in.
