Old Castle Rain

The castle was built in the 15th century by the Dukes of Bavaria. In the 16th century, a new construction took place. In 1849, the castle was extended and rebuilt.

The first documentary mention of the castle dates back to 1300. At that time, it was a medieval moated castle, which served to protect the border and as a customs station. The castle was strategically located on an important trade route.

In the 15th century, the castle was expanded into a residential castle by Duke Albrecht III. of Bavaria. He had a new main building built and the fortifications reinforced. The castle became an important administrative center.
