From the Middle Ages to the Early Modern Period+
The old castle (fortress) was first mentioned in 1188 as being in the possession of the House of Hohenstaufen. Since 1261, the castle has been owned by the Counts of Oettingen. In 1582, the surrounding administrative and economic buildings were erected. In 1648, the castle was destroyed by Swedish troops during the Thirty Years' War.
