Old Vogtei Castle Pleinfeld

The Old Bailiwick Castle is located in the center of Pleinfeld in the Central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen. It is also known as the Monastery Bailiwick, Old Castle, High House, or Monastery.
Nothing is known about the origin of the three-story, two-winged building. It was first mentioned in 1136 and was redesigned in the 17th/18th century. Its former owners were the Diocese of Eichstätt and the Lords of Pleinfeld. It served as a girls' school, doctor's house, residence of the district bailiff, apartments for railway construction engineers in the 19th century, a prayer room for Protestants before the construction of St. Peter's Church, and as a district court.
Today, the building houses the municipal library, the House of Guests, and the Pleinfeld Local History and Brewery Museum. Since 2006, the Multi-Generational House of Pleinfeld has also been located here.
In the square in front of the Old Bailiwick Castle is the Wolfram von Eschenbach Fountain (it is assumed that Wolfram von Eschenbach was born in Pleinfeld). The Dove Fountain was created during the renovation of the Bailiwick Castle. It shows medieval elements but is also intended to honor the pigeon breeding club and other associations.
