The St. Andrew's Chapel in Leipzig-Knautnaundorf is a church building, with its oldest parts dating back to the 11th century. It is considered the oldest preserved ecclesiastical space in Saxony and, after the incorporation of Knautnaundorf, also the oldest surviving building in Leipzig.

History+

The round shaft of St. Andrew's Chapel tower is the oldest part of the structure, dating from before 1100. Archaeological findings and comparisons with Groitzsch Castle suggest that the chapel originally belonged to a manorial estate associated with Wiprecht von Groitzsch. By the end of the 15th century, the original apse was demolished and extended with a Gothic hall. Renovations took place between 1719 and 1723, during which the current octagonal tower shaft was built and the nave was enlarged.
