Annenkloster Perleberg

The monastery was founded in 1441 by the provincial of the Saxon Carmelite order province. A plot of land provided by the city of Perleberg served as its location, with Elector Frederick II of Brandenburg granting his approval. The early history of the monastery is documented only by two charters from 1480. During a city visitation in 1542, only two elderly monks remained in the monastery, whose livelihood was to continue to be provided by the city. This marked the end of monastic use, which lasted until approximately 1540/41.

The former monastery is located in Perleberg, a town in the Prignitz region of northern Brandenburg, Germany. It was strategically positioned in the medieval town center, surrounded by the arms of the Stepenitz river.

After its dissolution, the site initially served as a poorhouse and was used as a magazine by the garrison in the early 18th century. An engraving from 1726 still depicts the church and cloister buildings, including the cloister walk, suggesting better preservation at that time.
