Heihsgut Manor

The Heihsgut was acquired in 1478 by the Heihs family as a free property from the Benedictine Abbey of St. Lambrecht in Styria. It is believed to have been part of a larger estate that was devastated in the 13th century during conflicts between the Bishop of Bamberg, the abbey, and the Counts of Ortenburg, and was finally awarded to the monks in 1278. The Heihs family shaped the history of the estate, as evidenced by the gravestones in the village churchyard, which document their rise and fall. In the 16th century, a stone pine parlor from 1545 and a waffle iron from 1559 bearing the family coat of arms attested to the Heihs' prosperity. The house was expanded, including the incorporation of a brick granary and the construction of the large stone pine parlor on the first floor.
