Penninghof Manor

The first documented mention of Penninghof occurred between 1427 and 1429, when Hans Strasser zu Straß held the archiepiscopal fief of “Obkirchen.” He transferred the estate as a morning gift to his wife Margaretha in 1433. After his death, ownership passed to the underage children of Michael Emhofer, whose feudal lord was Wilhelm Penninger. Before 1490, Wilhelm Penninger became the sole owner, and the property remained with the Penninger family for generations. In 1613, the estate was first referred to as a nobleman's seat in Obkirchen. After further changes in ownership, the Paris Lodron Collegium Marianum in Salzburg acquired the manor and its lordship in 1649. From 1665 onwards, Penninghof primarily served as a residential or farmhouse. In 1842, Peter Gschwandtner purchased the property, which was then sold to Peter Schernthaner in 1887. The Schernthaner family remains in possession of Penninghof to this day.
