Rothenburg Manor

Rothenburg Manor is a small castle in Graz. The history of the estate dates back to the 14th century, although the actual castle was not built until 1579. Since then, however, it has been frequently rebuilt.

The castle is located in Eggenberg, the 14th district of Graz. It stands at the intersection of Berstrasse and Annaweg.

The current castle was originally a manor farm owned by Rein Abbey. In 1385, Friedrich der Wagerspacher came into possession of the estate. The actual castle was built in 1579 by Abbot Georg Freiseisen of Rein. In the following years, it came under the rule of Eggenberg. In 1740, Johann Ernst Karl von Ortenhofen handed over the property to his heirs. There were many changes of ownership before the estate came into the possession of Rittmeister Hans Peter in 1916. He had it renovated, among other things.

The current castle is a two-story building with stone-brick masonry and a hip roof. The thickness of the walls on the ground floor is between 80 and 85 centimeters. It has a bay window that can be dated to 1579, as well as window grilles from the 17th to 18th centuries. The exterior wall of the building is painted red.
