Ancient Town Alinda

The ancient city of Alinda rises on two ridges above the modern village of Karpuzlu in Aydın Province, Turkey. It has well-preserved structures.
History+
Most of the visible ruins of Alinda date back to the 4th century BC. Ada, who resided in Alinda from 340 BC after being expelled from Halicarnassus, played a role in the city's history. When Alexander the Great reached Caria in 334 BC, she handed Alinda over to him and offered him adoption, thereby establishing his legal succession to the Carian rulers. After conquering Halicarnassus, Alexander appointed her Queen of Caria. Alinda remained inhabited during the Byzantine era and served as an episcopal see.
Location+
Alinda is located in the Turkish Ege (Aegean) region, in the Aydın district, near the village of Karpuzlu. The ancient city lies at an elevation of approximately 254 meters above sea level.
