Ancient City Amyzon

Amyzon's history dates back to the Hellenistic period, when the city formed changing alliances with the Ptolemies, the Seleucids, and Herakleia on Latmos. Coin finds from this period, as well as the Roman Imperial era, attest to the city's existence. Later, Amyzon was the seat of a late antique bishopric, whose tradition continues in the titular bishopric of Amyzon of the Roman Catholic Church. The French epigrapher Louis Robert conducted archaeological excavations here.
