History+

The earliest evidence of the city of Aperlai comes from coins dating back to the 5th century BC. Literary mentions only appear during the Roman Imperial period, when Aperlai was part of the province of Lycia et Pamphylia. At that time, it formed a sympolity with the neighboring settlements of Apollonia, Isinda, and Simena. A severe earthquake in 141/142 AD caused damage, after which the city received reconstruction support from Opramoas of Rhodiapolis. Around 240 AD, Aperlai minted its own coins for the last time.
