Ancient Town Apollonia Pontica

Apollonia was an ancient city on the western Black Sea at the southern end of the Bay of Burgas at the site of today's Sozopol in Bulgaria. In order to distinguish it from other cities of the same name, it was called the supplementary pontica (Greek: Ἀπολλωνία Ποντική, Apollonia Pontike, Latinized: Apollonia pontica, Bulgarian: Аполония Понтийска).

Apollonia had two sheltered harbors and thus provided a convenient location for navigation, its economy in the 5th and 4 Century BC was based on copper, wine, grain and fishing. With the Roman conquest in 72 BC, the city was looted and destroyed.
