History+

The origins of the ruins in Val Catena Bay date back to Roman times. From two late Republican Villae Rusticae, the extensive Villa Maritima developed during the Claudian era. It included a large terraced residential building, a small temple complex with three temples, a library, cisterns, and a bathhouse. An economic wing for wine and oil production was also part of it. Later, a dye works was established within the ruins.
