On the Brijuni Islands in Croatia, the remains of an ancient city, whose origins lie in Roman times, can be found. The Temple of Venus was part of an extensive Villa Maritima.

History+

The ancient city in Val Catena Bay, also known as Uvala Verige, was once the largest Villa Maritima on the Adriatic. It developed in Claudian times from two older late Republican Villae Rusticae and stretched for over a kilometer. The complex included a large terraced residential building, a small temple district with three temples, including the Temple of Venus, as well as a library, cisterns, and a bathing facility. An economic wing with production facilities for wine and oil was also part of it.
