In the heart of the Lombard city of Brescia, the remains of the ancient city of Brixia, particularly the Capitolium, bear witness to a rich Roman past. These impressive ruins offer deep insights into the urban life and religious practices of antiquity.

History+

Brixia was originally a settlement of the Celtic Cenomani tribe. In 225 BC, it became part of the Roman Empire after the Cenomani submitted to Rome. Emperor Augustus founded a civil colony here in 27 BC. Later, during his reign, Vespasian had a significant temple erected in the center of Brixia. This construction was a token of gratitude to the city's inhabitants for their support during his imperial candidacy and was dedicated to three deities.
