The ancient town can be visited

Enkomi, a significant ancient city from the Bronze Age, is located in the eastern part of Cyprus. It was once a flourishing trade center that played a prominent role due to its strategic location and copper exports. Today, its ruins bear witness to a rich history and offer insights into the life of a past civilization.

History+

The earliest traces of human settlement in Enkomi date back to the 17th century BC. From around 1600 BC, the city developed into a central hub for copper trade, giving it high economic importance. In the 14th century BC, the import of Mycenaean pottery increased significantly, and from the late 13th century BC, local production of Mycenaean goods even became established in Enkomi, indicating the settlement of Achaean refugees. Around 1200 BC, the city was struck by a major fire, which, however, did not mark its end.
