The remains of the ancient town can be visited

The ancient city of Hyllarima in modern-day Turkey. Its remains, including an agora, a theater, and a synagogue, give a glimpse into the life of a once significant settlement.

History+

Hyllarima existed as early as the 3rd century BCE, as evidenced by an inscription found there. Between 189 and 167 BCE, the city was part of the mainland possessions of the island of Rhodes. Several sanctuaries were located within Hyllarima's territory. During the Roman Imperial period, the city minted its own coins. Later, Hyllarima was the seat of a late antique bishopric, which is the origin of the current titular bishopric of the Roman Catholic Church.
