Ancient City Iasos

The remains of the ancient town can be visited

The ancient city of Iasos, once situated on an island and later connected to the mainland, is found today near the Turkish village of Kıyıkışlacık.

History+

The settlement of Iasos began as early as the Early Bronze Age. In the Middle Bronze Age, Cretan finds suggest a possible Minoan colony. From the late 15th century BC, a Mycenaean presence was established, evidenced by pottery and wall remains. In classical times, Iasos was alternately part of the Delian League and the Persian Empire, before being incorporated into the Roman province of Asia in 129 BC. The city was inhabited until the 15th or 16th century and then abandoned.
