Ancient Town Idalium (Ιδάλιον)

Idalium was an important Iron Age kingdom in Cyprus. In the 5th and 4th centuries BC, an acropolis and a royal palace were built on the western hill of the city, surrounded by a mighty city wall up to 10 meters thick and over 8 meters high. The city was at times subject to or allied with the kingdom of Kition. A discovered bronze tablet attests to a siege by Medes and Kitionians. Throughout history, numerous archaeological finds have been made, including statues and tombs, providing insights into the city's rich past.

The ancient city of Idalium is located in Dali in the Nicosia district, Republic of Cyprus, at an elevation of approximately 249 m above sea level. It lies 15 km southeast of Nicosia on the south bank of the Yialias, near the copper deposits of the Troodos Mountains.

Visitors can explore the remains of the ancient city of Idalium. The excavation sites on the two hills, particularly those of the western hill with the acropolis and parts of the royal palace, are accessible and offer insights into the historical architecture and life of that era.
