The remains of the ancient town can be visited

At the southern tip of the Bozburun Peninsula in modern-day Turkey are the remains of the ancient city of Loryma. Its foundation by Rhodes in the 7th century BC shaped its history. The city is situated at the end of a deep bay; the remains are well-preserved due to minimal overbuilding in the area.

History+

Loryma was founded in the 7th century BC by Rhodes and evolved into an important settlement. The city was strategically positioned at the end of a 1.8-kilometer-deep bay, within sight of the Greek island of Rhodes. The city plan was almost completely recorded between 1995 and 2002 by German archaeologist Winfried Held, without extensive excavations.
