The founding of Seleukia is dated to approximately 300 BC, with its name suggesting a possible establishment by Seleukos I Nikator of the Seleucid dynasty. Although the city is mentioned in ancient geographical works, many details of its history remain obscure. Archaeological research in the early 1970s unearthed important finds such as an Orpheus mosaic and an Apollo bronze statue, now displayed in the Antalya Museum. The remains of a Byzantine church indicate that the site was also inhabited during the Middle Ages.
