Ancient City Teos

The history of Teos stretches back a long way. In 545 BC, the city played a role in the resettlement of Abdera. As a member of the Ionian League, Teos participated in the Ionian Revolt against the Persians in 499 BC, which led to the Persian Wars. In the late 5th century BC, the city repeatedly changed hands between Spartan and Athenian control. Through the King's Peace of 387/386 BC, Teos became part of the Persian Empire until Alexander the Great ended Persian rule. In the 3rd century BC, Antigonus I Monophthalmus attempted to unite Teos with Lebedos, but this failed. Later, the city came under the influence of the Seleucids and then the kings of Pergamon, who demanded tribute.
