Ancient City Thasos (Θάσος)-Theatre

The ancient city of Thasos developed into a significant center in the North Aegean from around 680 BC. In the 6th century BC, it reached a golden age that spanned centuries. The city, which once had about 20,000 inhabitants, was destroyed and abandoned in the 7th century AD. The theater was part of this thriving city, which benefited from its favorable geographical location, surrounded by fertile plains and rich in marble.

The ancient theater is located on the island of Thasos, specifically in the region of Anatoliki Makedonia, Thraki (East Macedonia and Thrace) in Northern Greece. It stands at an elevation of approximately 43 meters above sea level.

Today, visitors can explore the remains of the ancient city of Thasos, which include the ruins of the theater. These historical sites are open to the public, offering insights into the past.
