Near the village of Bribir, on a high plateau in Croatia, lie the remains of the ancient city of Varvaria.
History+
The origins of Varvaria date back to the Illyrian period, when a settlement emerged here. Under Roman rule, the site developed into an important municipium named Varvaria. In the 7th century, Croats settled among the ruins of this Roman city and named it Bribir, a name that persists to this day for the nearby locality.

The ancient city of Varvaria is located near Bribir in the Šibenik-Knin County, in Adriatic Croatia. The ruins are on a high plateau at an elevation of approximately 286 meters above sea level.
