Ancient Town Vulci

The roman town can be visited

In the Italian region of Lazio lies the ancient city of Vulci, once a center of the Etruscans. Just a few kilometers from the Tyrrhenian coast, its well-preserved remains can be seen.

History+

Vulci was one of the Etruscan Dodecapolis cities. Its mention in historical records is rare, but a Roman triumph over Vulci in 280 BC is documented. Shortly thereafter, the Romans also established Cosa, Vulci's former port, as a colony. The city's wealth is revealed in its necropolis, which has been explored since 1828. The vases, jewelry, and bronze works discovered there are now exhibits in European museums.
