Asam Castle

The origins of the estate date back to 1687 when the Electoral Court Councillor Adrian v. Kray had a country seat built here. In 1724, Cosmas Damian Asam acquired the property and redesigned it. He added an extra floor to the building and adorned its facades with frescoes, typical for Munich, in 1729/30. Simultaneously, a geometric Baroque garden was laid out on the south side, and his brother Egid Quirin Asam built a chapel. The project was financed with fees from Asam's fresco work in the Swiss monastery of Einsiedeln, which is why he named his estate "Asamisch Maria Einsiedel Dall." After Asam's death in 1739, the Schlössl changed hands multiple times. From 1838, an excursion restaurant operated on the east side. Between 1923 and 1927, the facades were re-decorated with frescoes.
