Ashford Castle
On the shores of Lough Corrib near the village of Cong in Ireland stands Ashford Castle, a medieval fortress. Originally built in the 13th century by Anglo-Norman nobles, it is now a five-star hotel and one of the most exclusive establishments in the country.
History+
The origins of Ashford Castle date back to the 13th century when it was constructed by an Anglo-Norman noble family. A phase of restoration and expansion began in the 1850s under Benjamin Guinness and his son Arthur Guinness, the 1st Baron Ardilaun. In 1939, Noel Huggard acquired the estate and established it as a hotel.
