The origins of Derneburg Monastery date back to 1213, when it was founded as a collegiate church for the Augustinian Canonesses B.M.V. Over the centuries, the monastery underwent several changes in its order affiliation, serving first as a home for Cistercian nuns and later for Cistercian monks. The monastery's consecration took place under the patronage of Saints Mary, Andrew, and Servatius. Its existence as a religious institution concluded in 1803 with its secularization.
