Kloster Diesdorf

The abbey was founded in 1161 by Count Hermann von Lüchow. Originally conceived as a double monastery, it housed Augustinian Canonesses and possibly Augustinian Canons. However, by around 1200, it was exclusively a convent of Augustinian Canonesses. The Reformation reached the monastery no later than 1541. In 1551, it was transformed into an evangelical women's collegiate foundation, and the monastic estates were transferred to the territorial office of Diesdorf. The final dissolution of the abbey occurred in 1810.

The former monastery is situated in the village of Diesdorf in the northwest of Saxony-Anhalt, within the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel. The complex is located at an elevation of approximately 68 meters above sea level.

The former collegiate church of St. Mary and Crucis now serves as the parish church for the Evangelical-Lutheran congregation of Diesdorf. It is considered one of the best-preserved examples of brick Romanesque architecture in the Altmark and is part of the Romanesque Road. In addition to the church, some medieval utility buildings and large sections of the monastery wall are still preserved.
