The former Augustinian Canonesses' Convent of Königshofen an der Heide, a historic monastery in Bavaria, is primarily known today for its former monastery church. This now serves as an Evangelical-Lutheran parish church and stands as a testament to the region's eventful history.
History+
The monastery of Königshofen an der Heide was founded in 1422 by Katharina Knoll. It was dedicated to the Augustinian Canonesses and was known as Marienmünster. The community of Augustinian Canonesses relocated their seat to Marienburg Monastery between 1488 and 1495, leading to the dissolution of the original monastery in Königshofen. In 1565, the former monastery church was converted into a Lutheran parish church. A tragic event occurred during the Thirty Years' War on August 20, 1632, when Croatian mercenaries set fire to the Münster, where residents had sought refuge. This fire resulted in the deaths of 114 people.
