The monastery of Fredelsloh was founded in 1132. It was originally established as a double monastery for the Augustinian Canonesses of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Over the centuries, it shaped the religious and cultural life of the region. The monastery was dedicated to Saints Mary and Blasius. Its existence as an independent spiritual institution concluded in the mid-17th century with its dissolution and secularization.
