Kloster Höningen

The Augustinian Canons Regular monastery was founded around 1120. The canons lived according to the Rule of Saint Augustine, with organization and daily life similar to that of the Benedictines. The monastery was initially led by a provost, and from the 15th century, by a prior. The monastery was consecrated in 1141 in honor of Saints Peter, Paul, and Verena. It served as the cultural center of the Leiningen counts' territory. The dissolution and secularization of the monastery occurred in 1569.

The former monastery is situated in Höningen, a district of Altleiningen, in the northeastern Palatinate Forest in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.

Significant structural remains of the former Augustinian Canons Regular monastery are preserved and characterize the local area. After the monastery's dissolution, the Höningen Latin School was established on its site, and in the early 19th century, the current village of Höningen developed around the monastic ruins.
