The remains of the Castle can be visited

The ruin of Ballincollig Castle stands in the south of the Irish town of Ballincollig, in County Cork.

History+

The origins of Ballincollig Castle are attributed to Sir Robert Coll, who presumably had the castle built. In 1468, the estate passed into the possession of the Barrett family, who expanded the structure in the following years. At the beginning of the 17th century, the Barretts faced financial difficulties and were forced to mortgage the castle in 1618. Twelve years later, in 1630, Walter Coppinger acquired the estate.
