History+

The origins of Bancroft Villa date back to the late first century. In the second century, a temple or mausoleum was erected on a nearby hill. Around 170 AD, the original villa was destroyed by fire. Towards the end of the third century, a larger estate was rebuilt on the remains of the earlier structure. The fourth century was marked by extensive renovations, including the addition of geometric mosaics and the expansion of the private thermal bath complex.
