Neschwitz Castle

The origins of the estate date back to 1268, when Neschwitz was first documented and a moated castle already existed. The Knights of Schreibersdorf, a noble family from Jauer, were the feudal lords and had the moated castle converted into a Renaissance palace around 1454. In the 16th century, after an economic crisis among the nobility and the Upper Lusatian Pönfall of 1547, ownership changed more frequently. In 1572, Hans Haubold von Schleinitz acquired the estate, followed by Friedrich von Pannewitz and Hans von Ponickau the Younger. Georg Rudolph von Ponickau unsuccessfully attempted to elevate Neschwitz to a market town. Later, the estate passed to the von Theler family. A transformation began in 1721 under Prince Friedrich Ludwig von Württemberg-Winnental, who acquired the property as a wedding gift for Ursula Katharina von Altenbockum.
