Barry Castle in Wales served as a residence and defensive structure for the de Barry family. Today, the remains of the gatehouse and adjacent walls are preserved.

History+

The origins of Barry Castle date back to the 13th century, when it was built to replace an earlier earthwork. In the 13th and 14th centuries, the complex underwent several expansions. Initially, there were two stone buildings on the sides of a courtyard, but no above-ground traces of these are visible today. In the early 14th century, the fortification was strengthened by the addition of a large hall and a gatehouse on its south side, the ruins of which are preserved to this day.
