Basilique Saint-Michel de Bordeaux

The church can be visited

The Basilique Saint-Michel in Bordeaux is a Roman Catholic church dedicated to Archangel Michael. It is a place of worship for the Archdiocese of Bordeaux and an important stop on the Way of St. James, Via Turonensis. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1998.

With a length of 75 meters and a width of 38 meters, the Basilique Saint-Michel is one of the largest churches in Bordeaux, surpassed only by the city's cathedral. Its construction primarily took place in the 14th and 15th centuries, with completion documented in 1473 and 1493. The 23-meter-high nave houses 17 side altars, including one for the Apostle James the Greater. The original stained-glass windows were completely destroyed during World War II and replaced in the 20th century.
