Belvedere Castle

The Belvedereschlössl likely originated in the 15th century. From the 17th century onwards, its ownership is documented, including Count Andreas von Volkra and later Count Pálffy. From 1688, it belonged to Albrecht von Albrechtsburg, before passing into the possession of the Freysegg family in 1690, who used it as a pleasure palace. In 1780, the Freyseggs sold the estate to the market town of Stockerau. Part of the grounds was later developed by the Weipert machine factory, which was built in 1882 and demolished in 1933. After a partial overbuilding of the area, a revitalization of the castle and the redesign of the garden into a baroque garden began in 1984. In 1985, the Belvedereschlössl Cultural Center was opened, which took over the collections of the Stockerau Museum, previously housed in the town hall and the church school.
