Rohrbach monastery

The first documented mention of the locality Rohrbach, then referred to as “Rurbach,” dates back to between 881 and 899 in a tithe register of Hersfeld Abbey. The monastery itself was established in the 13th century. Following its secularization, the property was allocated to Duke Johann Friedrich of Saxony in the Treaty of Naumburg in 1554. However, he exchanged it, along with the Sangerhausen district, for Altenburg in Thuringia. Subsequently, Elector August of Saxony transferred Rohrbach Monastery to Paul Appelman in 1558, who had already been active since 1545 as a collector of interest for the monasteries of Rohrbach and St. Ulrich in Sangerhausen.

Rohrbach Monastery is located west of Oberröblingen in the Mansfeld-Südharz district, a region in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany.

Today, the former monastery is protected as a cultural monument in Germany, representing an important testament to regional history.
